2011 marked the second year in which many social networks started to wane as social network saturation kicked in. The questions remains, how many social networks can you actively stay up to date on? As Facebook became the mainstay for many users in late 2009 and into 2010 and continuing into 2011, we see the continued fallout in interest for many other social networks. There are still a few social networks that are growing, year over year, however, such as Tumblr, Reddit and Twitter, to name a few.

A handy new study
out of a company called Simply Measured found that now 40 percent of the brands in the Interbrand 100
are on Instagram. And the brands that cater to the “rich kid” demographic are really taking to the service: Burberry, Tiffany & Co. Hermès, Gucci, and Armani are getting some solid engagement.
Instagram has a ways to go before it gets to Twitter and Facebook levels of brand attention — both services have more than 90 percent of the Interbrand 100 — but it’s not a bad start for a two year old mobile-only app.
